These ancient whittled logs could be the earliest known wooden structure
The remains of what might have been a wooden structure built by hominins roughly half a million years ago have been uncovered in Zambia. Researchers can’t definitively identify the possible structure — it might have been a raised platform, a shelter or something else entirely. Whatever it was, it pre-dates the evolution of
Homo sapiens
by more than 100,000 years.
