A century of quantum physics
In 1925, on the German island of Heligoland, physicist Werner Heisenberg had the inspiration that marked the dawn of quantum theory. One hundred years later, the quantum revolution still has unfinished business — and its relationship with the other pillar of modern physics, Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity, is uneasy. Nevertheless, the promise of quantum computers and quantum sensors prove that the theory is ruthlessly practical as well as delightfully bizarre.
